Last week we packed our warmer clothes for another visit to the East. I had been looking forward to this trip since we were there in January. One, because we were celebrating our engagement with family and friends at my mum's house and two, because I was finally going to see the venue we had booked for our wedding reception (I hadn't seen it yet-crazy I know!). After what seemed like an eternity of a school term, I was keen to get on that plane, even if it meant waking up at 4am.
Our engagement party was a fabulous-whirwind of a day. My mum and Pete's parents had put in a lot of work to make this day happen and I could not be any more thankful. It was such a great day surrounded by family, friends, so much delicious food and surprisingly decent weather (applaud Melbourne!). But the day went by in a flash. One minute I was hanging paper lanterns for decorations, the next I was resting my sleepy-exhausted self on the couch having had too much cake and probably too many glasses of Pinot Noir. It was well worth it. It was so great to see family and friends that we hadn't seen in awhile and although the distance keeps us apart we always seem to pick up where we left off. I love that.
The following day we drove our Holden SV6 rental car (soooo not an 'us' car!) to the country. Maffra to be precise...the destination of our wedding next year! This small little dairy town is Pete's old stomping grown and about a 15 minute drive from my home town, Sale, where I grew up. Autumn here is one of the most beautiful times of the year. The leaves are all shades of yellow and red and scatter the streets as they fall from their trees, which much to the locals disgust create a nuisance to clean. The mornings and nights are cool and crisp but the fog hasn't quite hit the air just yet. The paddocks are slowly immersing out of their dry brown grass as rain falls. Having lived in the West for almost two and a half years now, I had come to miss this time of the year in country Victoria. I felt very lucky to be here again.
For the first time since we moved to the West and visited home, I didn't want to leave and found it difficult to get on that plane. For the first time it hit me how far we actually live from home and how much I miss it. After we got off the plane in Perth that night and I climbed into bed I started planning our next trip. Pete kept reminding me of how great we have it here in Perth and how many wonderful people we have met and have in our lives. Although I didn't disagree, there really is no place like home.

//The slight cold I picked up while I was home. Typical freezing Victoria//
//Plane food. Even though we get served our meals first (the perks of dietary requirements!), the last thing I want to eat when I am already de-hydrated 30,000ft in the air is super-salted-dry food. Pass//
//Seeing Collingwood loose to the Bombers at the G on Anzac Day. Boo!//
//Knowing that in two days time holidays are over.
Awesome//
//Being at home! Seeing family. Seeing friends. Eating copious amounts of delicious (and not so healthy) food//
//More wedding plans! Seeing our reception venue for the first time, tasting food to serve at the reception and choosing a ceremony location (photo of the Church above)//
//Having photos taken for an engagement shoot by the lovely Nika Savins. Once we got passed the awkwardness it was loads of fun spending an afternoon trekking through the bushland in Spearwood being photographed. I can't wait to see the photo's!//
//Knowing that although holidays are almost over, in nine weeks time we will be on them again!//
